Auburn seniors Ben Tate and Antonio Coleman will be strapping on their helmets once again this weekend as they’re set to participate in the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl.
Held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., the Senior Bowl features some of the finest college football players in the country and is widely considered the nation’s premier showcase for future NFL talent.
TATE
Tate, from Salisbury, Md., rushed for 1,362 yards on the season, to go along with 10 touchdowns. For his career, he rushed for 3,321 yards, which was good enough for fifth place on Auburn’s all-time rushing list. He also finished with 24 career touchdowns, which is sixth all-time at Auburn.
Tate was named a Second Team All-SEC selection and a Doak Walker Award semifinalist.
COLEMAN
Coleman, a native of Mobile, Ala., was the SEC sack leader this year with nine sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. For his career, Coleman finished with 23.5 sacks, which places him third on Auburn’s all-time list.
Coleman was voted First Team All-SEC by the media and Third-Team All-American by Phil Steele Publications.
OTHER PLAYERS
Other participants in the Senior Bowl will include Heisman Trophy-winner Tim Tebow (Florida), Tony Pike (Cincinnati), Stafon Johnson (USC), Javier Arenas (Alabama), Riley Cooper (Florida), Dexter McCluster (Ole Miss), Anthony Dixon (Mississippi State), and Montario Hardesty (Tennessee).
Auburn players have traditionally fared well at the Senior Bowl. In 1994, quarterback Stan White was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after leading the South to a 35-32 victory over the North. Four years later, quarterback Dameyune Craig was named the MVP in a 31-8 South win.
Running back Bo Jackson and offensive lineman Tom Banks were both named to the Senior Bowl’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Jackson participated in the Senior Bowl in 1986, while Banks participated in 1970.
